Project work overview

Project Based Learning is the application of a comprehensive methodology to inculcate the spirit of strategizing industry operations in a real-time environment.

The project work aims to foster students with an opportunity to develop conceptual, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Selection of project work topic

The choice of topic for the project work and the approach to be adopted needs to be based on the field of specialization.

It is important to distinguish between a project work topic and a project work title. The topic is the specific area that you wish to investigate. The title may not be decided until the project work has been written so as to reflect its content properly.

  • Relevant to business or technology, defined broadly
  • Related to one or more subjects or areas of study within the core program and specialization
  • Clearly focused to facilitate in-depth study, subject to adequate sources of information and your own knowledge
  • Of value and interest to you and your personal and professional development

Planning the project work

  1. 1Selecting an original and relevant topic for investigation
  2. 2Establishing the precise focus of your study by deciding on aims and objectives, formulating questions to be investigated, deciding sampling techniques and statistical techniques to summarize findings. Consider carefully what is worth investigating and its feasibility
  3. 3Drawing up initial project work outlines considering aims and objectives, and working out various stages of the project work

Writing the extended abstract (3,000–5,000 words)

Submit the extended abstract of the project work in 3,000–5,000 words. It should cover the following aspects:

  1. 1Abstract (500–1,000 words): an overview or brief summary that helps the reader ascertain the purpose of the project work. It acts as a stand-alone entity for the complete project work
  2. 2Study hypotheses (null or alternative hypotheses, if applicable)
  3. 3Literature review: a critical analysis of previous research, evaluating substantive findings and theoretical and methodological contributions to your topic
  4. 4Research methodology: research design (descriptive, conclusive, causal, or exploratory); sampling technique (probability or non-probability); data collection tools (e.g. questionnaire, survey); data preparation (classification and tabulation); data analysis and hypotheses testing
